Voter Registration

To register to vote, you must:

  • Be a United States citizen

  • Be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file the form (NOTE: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote)

  • Live at your present address at least 30 days before an election

  • Not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction and (NYS Ex-Felons Can VOTE)

  • Not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court

  • Not claim the right to vote elsewhere

The deadline to register to vote in New York is May 28, 2021.

To vote in the June 22nd Primary Election, you must register to vote by May 28. Applications sent through the mail must be postmarked no later than May 28 and received by your local County Board of Elections no later than June 2. Online applications or in-person applications must be submitted by May 28. In New York, voters must be registered 25 days before an election to be able to vote in that election.

You may register in person at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the Primary Election, your application must be received no later than May 28, 2021. If honorably discharged from the US Military or have become a naturalized US Citizen after May 28, 2021, you may register in person at the Board of Elections up until June 21, 2021. Notices of change of address from registered voters received by June 2, 2021 by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the Primary Election.
